Parental Involvement
Congratulations! You have signed your child up for piano lessons! Music is such a great gift that they will be able to enjoy for a life time. While most students are initially excited to begin, please be aware that they will face challenges and sometimes frustrations. As initial enthusiasm is replaced by awareness of the discipline and commitment required to attain excellence, your encouragement and praise will be essential to your child’s success. In addition, setting aside a scheduled practice time usually helps them getting into a routine. If your child is younger, they might need some help through some of their practice time, so practicing with them would be recommended in the beginning.
Student Responsibilities
PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE.
Your effort and time will reflect in the quality of your playing. Students who establish good practice habits from the beginning will progress more rapidly and find piano lessons more enjoyable. The amount of time required for good quality practice will vary depending on the student’s age and playing level. It is recommended to practice a minimal of 4-5 hours per week in the beginning. As the level goes up, the practice time will increase accordingly.
BE PREPARED
Make sure you have all your books and notebook. Keep fingernails trimmed to ensure proper hand position and good technique.
Billing Information
Please be sure to remit by the first lesson of each month. A $15 late fee will be charged if the payment has not been made by the 15th of each month.
Cancellation policy
When a lesson must be missed, please notify the instructor at least 24 hours in advance to avoid charges. Cancelled lesson slots in a given week will be made available to other students for make-up lessons. Each student is allowed up to 3 make up lessons per calendar year. However, if a make-up lesson couldn’t be arranged, no refund would be issued unless it is responsibility of the studio.
Obtaining Books and Other Necessary Supplies
Piano Books – Your child will need 4-5 new books ($7-$10 ea.) approximately every six months, depending on their progress. You could either purchase the books yourselves, or obtain through the studio, and the cost will be added to your next invoice.
Metronome – If you do not already own a metronome, you are responsible to purchase one within the first month of lessons.
The Piano
You must have a piano or full-sized keyboard (88 keys) in your home. A piano is strongly recommended as nothing can take the place of its touch and sound. A piano should be tuned at least once a year.
Recitals and Performance Opportunities
Studio recitals will be arranged bi-annually (spring concert and Christmas concert). It is important for the students to have performing experience and get used to playing in front of people.
*Dates of the recital will be informed in advance. The fee for the recital is $20 per student.
Dismissal
The studio holds the right to discontinue the lesson when the following situations recurring for more than an acceptable period of time, and no improvement is made after you have been notified:
- The student demonstrates a lack of enthusiasm and willingness to participate during lesson time
- The student consistently fails to show diligence and determination in home practice
- Lack of dependability and commitment exhibited in persistent absences or chronic lateness
- *If you were to chose to discontinue lessons, please give at least one month’s prior notice, the studio will practice the same manner.
